Privacy Policy

Version 1.0 – Honest, transparent, with a hint of irony.
1. Introduction
Welcome to our website – glad you stopped by!
We are a Swiss SME in journalism and we take data protection seriously. Really.
But we take it the Swiss way: with common sense, without 17 clicks and 42 pop-ups before you can even read an article.
We follow the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), occasionally lean on the European GDPR – and openly admit that we find some of that regulation frenzy a bit much.
In short: we protect your data, but we don’t go overboard.
2. Data Controller
We are a digital company and work remotely—wherever the internet reaches. You can reach us at press@clarus.news.
3. Collection and Use of Data
3.1 Technical Data
When you visit our site, certain data is collected automatically – IP address, browser type, access time, etc.
This information keeps the site stable, secure and optimised.
We store it only as long as truly necessary (and no, we don’t sell it to shady data shadow powers).
3.2 Google Analytics
Yes, we use Google Analytics – just like 90% of the internet.
Cookies help us understand how many people read our articles and whether anyone cares about our work.
Google may process this data on servers in the United States (we know, and yes, we frowned too).
If you’d rather not: disable cookies in your browser or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
We do not nag you with an annoying banner – we trust that responsible readers know how to manage their own privacy.
3.3 Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies to keep the site functional and pleasant.
Don’t worry: we don’t track secret eating habits or political leanings – just what’s technically necessary plus a bit of statistics.
3.4 Affiliate Links
Some articles contain affiliate links.
If you buy something via those links, we receive a small commission – your price stays the same, our coffee stays warm.
Third parties may set cookies to register that you came from our site.
4. Disclosure of Data
We only disclose data when:
- it’s required to run the site (e.g. to hosting providers),
- we are legally obliged to do so,
- or you explicitly ask us to.
No secret data parcels, no dodgy deals.
5. Your Rights
You may request at any time:
- information about the data we store about you,
- correction of inaccurate data,
- deletion (unless legal duties say otherwise).
Just email us at press@clarus.news – we respond faster than most authorities.
6. An Ironic Closing Thought
We’re aware there’s some double standard here:
We criticise EU privacy bureaucracy, yet we still use Google Analytics.
But hey – we’re journalists, living with contradictions is part of the job. 😉
Thanks for reading our work – and for trusting us enough not to insist on “Reject all cookies”.
This privacy policy was written with common sense and a pinch of irony.
The binding part, of course, is the seriousness behind it.
